Kube Studios - Common Winter Beauty Problems

Kube Studios advice for winter beauty problems.

Winter is fast approaching which means the cold weather and wind will affect your hair and skin. Here Kube studios tips to help your during the winter period

Dry Skin - Its very common in winter to suffer from dry skin. To help reduce this try to exfoliate at least once or twice a week to get rid of any dead skin. Use a gentle cleanser in the morning and a hydrating cleanser at night. If your suffering from really dry skin, use a
a heavier moisturiser and apply before bed. You could also use a layer a hydrating oil under your moisturiser to give it extra softness.

Static hair - In the colder months we tend to wear hats to keep our heads warm, however when your hair is dry and you remove your hat, your hair can go all static. To help reduce this you can make sure you're hydrating your hair properly. This will help prevent your hair from being dry. Also wait before using finishing products if you have to wear a hat outside as finishing product can make it worse.

Dull Complexion- In winter our skin can look duller which makes you look more tired. To help brighten your complexion you can use illuminating products. You can add the  illuminating lotion to your foundation or lotion to brighten up your face. Also you can use a highlighter along your nose and above your cheekbones to really make your skin shine.

Watery EyesCold weather can make your eyes well up with tears which can be annoying as it always looks like your upset. To help keep your make up in check use eye makeup primer to help prevent smudges under your eyes. Also you eyes can get red and itchy in winter so try to always bring soothing eyes drops with you to help keep them looking healthy.

Hopefully with these tips you can always look your best no matter what weather conditions your in.

Child Models

Kube Studios advice about child models.

Some parents may worry that their child is a little bit shy when doing a photoshoot, but its nothing to worry about. Kube Studios often see mothers bring their children in for photoshoots and they can get a bit nervous about all the equipment and lights. However its children's personalities need to shine through strong to make the best photos. Here are some tips that may prove helpful when you are trying to promote self confidence in your child whether for their first day at school or a photography session.

As a parent, you should remember that shyness is not personality disorder; it is just a trait. Most people liken shyness in children to poor self-image and low self-esteem. However, this doesn't mean they have low-self-esteem some children are just naturally mild-mannered and reserved. This is a good thing in itself. Kube Studios noticed that a child with higher self-esteem who establishes eye contact more often is generally very photogenic.

Children are very receptive individuals and have a tendency to imitate adults. If your children see you as a shy person, they are more likely to be shy as well. To help your child overcome shyness and succeed as a child model, it's perhaps time to try and overcome yours too. You can be a positive role model by showing your child how to be assertive while emphasising that assertiveness doesn't equate to aggressiveness.

Kube Studios Modelling Tips

Modelling tips from Kube Studios

If you are an aspiring model there is no better place to perfect your skills than Kube Studios. We give you real advice and guidance that will help you succeed and stand out from the crowd. Modelling is about commitment and willingness to push yourself. Determination is key to making it as a model and you also have to have the right tools and professional support. Many models only find this through friends or when they get signed to an agency, but how do you show an agency you have what it takes?

1) Have a z card or modelling portfolio

Without an up to date, and accurate modelling portfolio you can't be considered for many castings and can't show your full potential to a modelling agency. Modelling is extremely competitive and anything you can do to make yourself get noticed is worth doing. Make sure your portfolio is not air brushed and taken recently.

2) Don't be late

Be professional at all time, courteous, polite and take it in your stride. This includes what time you turn up. Show them it is important to you and turn up early. Talk to other people around you to learn more about the casting and their experiences and make friends. If people see you are a professional, they will treat you as such.

3) Facing rejection

Even after you get your portfolio and all the advice you need from Kube Studios, there may be times when you just don't get that modelling job you were after. It is times like these when you need to be resourceful and get back up on your feel and say 'it doesn't matter, let's try again'. Like Stallone said in Rocky Balboa, it is not how hard you can get hit which makes a winner, it's how hard you can get hit, and get back up again'.

Kube Studios tips on how to pose in a photo shoot

How to pose in a photo shoot.

Like any profession, it can take years to build up the right knowledge for your industry. Modelling is not different, there are many things you could practice before your photo shoot. Here Kube Studios guide to how to pose correctly at photo shoots.

  1. Use a mirror.  Learn how your body looks and moves. The mirror is a perfect tool to give you an idea of what the camera can see.
  2. Use separation between your limbs from your body. This helps to prevent your arms and legs from being squashed against you and making you look awkward. This can also give an illusion of a slimmer figure.
  3. Lighting. Use lighting to your advantage. For example, if you raise an arm to the light, it could be a whole lot brighter in camera than your face this is because it’s the object closest to the source of light. This will also cast a shadow across you, which will not be flattering.  To counteract this you can use your other arm or move your arm a backwards slightly, so it is away from the direct beam of light. Learning how the light will fall is very helpful when you are trying to get a perfect pose.
  4. Eyes. sometimes if you not careful your eyes can look un- focused. To try and avoid this follow the line of your nose so it keeps your sight straight, this will also prevent too much of the white of the eye showing.
  5. Elongate your neck. This can simulate height and poise. This can be hard to remember because it feels unnatural. Try standing in front of the mirror and stand how you would normally. Then try rolling your shoulders back allowing your face to come forward. This should make a difference in the width of your neck. You can also try popping your jaw towards the camera this creates a strong line as your will have created a shadow
  6. Smaller waist.  You can create an slimmer appearance by positioning yourself to the camera, then you can create the waist you want seen with positioning of your hands on the hips
  7. Hands. It is important to keep your hands loose, try not to clump your fingers together and try to not show as much of the back of your hand. This is because the sides of your hands are smaller and dainty so they look better in photos.

Kube Studios Guide to getting the perfect smile.

Guide to getting the perfect smile

At Kube Studios will understand that your first modelling session can be daunting, it can be hard to get a smile that looks natural. At Kube Studios we love it when our clients have fun at their photo shoots and to help you get your perfect smile here some of our tips to help.

As a model you are constantly asked for different expressions and to present different moods in a photo. But when you need to smile for real, you cannot really fake it. To get a believable grin it helps to use a time when you were feeling happy. Whether it’s thinking of a funny joke or happy memory, it helps if you look happy in photos. If you want to achieve genuine smile you can try lifting your tongue up behind your front teeth. This raises your chin ever so slightly and it helps to open up your mouth a bit.
Most professional models actually practice their smile to make sure it looks natural. Models sometimes practice in front of the mirror and this helps them to not look awkward when they are at a photo shoot. Most models have a range of different smiles so they can mastered different looks that is cater for the photo shoot they are doing. For example they may have surprise smile, flirting smile, coy smile and fun smile. It is important to be aware that you may have to show many different emotions and to be aware of how your face looks when you’re doing these different smiles.
Another great tip to keeping your smile natural is to yell a word before every frame. This helps to keep yourself from becoming glazed over or stiff, it can also help you to keep your energy going during a long photo shoot.

In any modelling photo shoot it is important to try and not force a smile, many people can make the mistake of showing all their teeth in a joker grin. In most situations this does not produce a natural looking smile. Smiling with your lips closed can be just as authentic, as long as you are conveying a real emotion with your eyes.

So if your budding model or just want more natural looking smiles for your social media photos try our tips, you never know you might just discover that one perfect smile.

Kube Studios Guide to Self Confidence

Guide to Having Self Confidence

Being a successful model in the modelling industry whether that's a commercial model or a fashion model you need to be authentic. This sense of self-belief builds your confidence and sets you apart from your competition and believe me no matter how good you are there will always be competition.
Being confident is a skill not all of us have naturally and may take years to build. The key is knowing your model and using all of your assets to the best of your ability. Whether they're your legs, arms, hands, eyes or hair, know what your selling points are and work them. Believing in yourself comes from trying. You have to try to succeed.

As a model on the runway you have to have particular measurements to be successful. These days there is a backlash against gaunt and overly skinny catwalk models, and the editor of Vogue was recently on the news saying she will have a word with any designer she sees using such models.  Your proportions are what many women diet for so count yourself lucky and love your elegance. When you are not working if you are conscious of your shape there are tricks that can give you more volume at the hips and chest by adding pleats and gathered fabrics. Belts to cinch in waists will emphasise your hips and chests.

Commercial models are your top high-street models. Your measurements will all be different but it is still so important to know your body shape in order to be confident. Being pear-shaped means staple pieces like a-line skirts and loose trousers are a winner for you and structured tops and jackets will broaden those shoulders for you. Ladies who are bottom heavy similarly to the pear shape you should be wearing pieces to broaden your shoulders to balance you out and tulip shaped pencil skirts  are perfect for you. If you are petite then feel free to keep things above the knee and don't be scared of wearing bright colours to keep yourself seen.

Being confident is something that comes from within and knowing your body is the best way to start taking control of who you are and being the best you can possibly be. Take the time to look in the mirror and work out what shape you are. Lets see if what you have in your wardrobe enhances that amazing shape of yours. We all have to fake it sometimes but our bodies are our own and we should all feel beautiful and secure in our own skin.

Little India's Modelling Story

little India, aged 5 from Halewood has won the title 'mini miss Liverpool' an international title 'mini miss British Empire' and national title ' mini miss face of the globe'.

India will now represent the uk at the international 'face of the globe' finals at Disney Paris in April 2016. We hope you'll agree she has done fantastically well to beat 1,000's of other entrants to represent the uk from little Halewood. She has recently been spotted by Kube Studios who are raving about her.

But that's not the whole story, India loves other children, she loves helping them, especially children who aren't as lucky as her - she is wise beyond her years in this respect. What really attracted her to compete for the 'face of the globe' was the fact that all the money raised goes to the 'rainbow children's charity' to help under privileged children all around the world especially to provide them with clean water, something she has been learning about in school this term.

The Rainbow children's charity is a fantastic charity and has helped more than 25,000 children in the last few years.

India has already raised more than £2, 000 for her charity school term through cake sales, bonus ball raffles, knocking on doors and sponsorship. This is already the most by any entrant into face of the globe at this stage, she won a special certificate for this - see picture.

She now wants to raise £10,000 for her charity by the time she goes to Paris in April which would be a record not only for her but for the international contest. For this we need the help and support of her city and we thought you may be able to help and support her.

She has already planned a 'ten cities in ten days' sponsored drive across Europe starting on Christmas Day and visiting London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Rome, Monte Carlo and Paris on the 3rd January. She is having the van fully sign written advertising the charity and are collecting along the way including her video diary uploaded to Facebook. She will have a picture taken in each city with a banner further asking for help and to raise awareness for the charity.

We know you'll agree that all children are special but India will help change the world over the next six months and she would like businesses from her home city to be involved, support and be proud of her. Would it be possible for you to organise a collection or offer some sponsorship or something similar to support one of the Liverpool's most exceptional children and help this brilliant charity.

Read more about her story here. Find out more about Kube Studios and real Kube Studios reviews here.

Catalogue Modelling with Kube Studios

What do you know about Catalogue Modelling?

Every year there are thousands of catalogues made in the UK. The most common are those related to fashion. For each one, dozens of models are required. You can see where this is going! There are literally thousands of catalogue modelling jobs available each year in the UK alone. This is a fantastic way to start a modelling career and a lot of the time you will be able to keep the items you model!

Kube Studios

Catalogues aren’t only in print though, there are also many that are solely on the internet. Modelling agencies are always on the lookout for models that suit their clients’ needs. It might seem obvious, but for a plus-sized clothing catalogue, the agency will put forward plus-sized models to the client. Remember that Kube Studios are not a modelling agency but we specialise in preparing you for any future career in the modelling business. Similarly, for a children’s clothing catalogue, they will only consider kids between the ages requested by the client. By operating in such a way, agencies are required to have a wide range of models on their books at any one time in order to compete and provide their clients with a good service.

Finding an agency isn’t the easiest thing to do. There are many of them, and some are much better than others. Kube Studios know the industry inside out and are only too happy to help models who want to step up from working in local studios and help them get where they want to be. Talk to Kube Studios about how we can help you, and find out a little bit more about what we offer in the video below.

Top Ways to Lose Weight

Kube Studios Diet: Lifestyle

Nowadays we are bombarded by 'good' advice telling us how to live, what to eat and when. One thing we should always remember about advice is that the person or company giving it will have something to gain by influencing your actions. The most obvious example of this would be a diet pills company. Kube Studios hear about all kinds of weird diets involving zero carbs or zero gluten and thought we should look at some of the truths behind them.

The most important thing to remember is that you are what you eat. Clearly you will not turn into a portion of chips, but on a chemical level this is very true. Your body needs dozens of different nutrients every day to perform its tasks of regenerating tissue and cleansing toxins - both biological and from food and drink. 'Superfoods' are named as such because they have high levels of these nutrients and low levels of bad fats.

Kube Studios
Kube Studios Photography

Gluten; myth or reality?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. It is also present in many whole grains such as bulgur, kamut, spelt and farro. Unless you have Celiac Disease (which is essentially an allergy to gluten) it is definitely not recommended to cut gluten out of your diet. As we said up above, someone has something to gain - in this instance it is the gluten-free and free-from companies who promote their very expensive products by supporting these diets and encouraging new eating habits.

If we look back at our grandparents' old photos, how many people were overweight? Was it because they had a carb or gluten free diet, or because they were generally more active and ate more organically? Many of us are addicted to sugars and can suffer headaches and itchy feet when cravings start. For most people this is around eight in the evening; the worst time of the day to snack or eat fast food. If you feel that this matches your normal eating habit, try cutting it out of your day for a month and keep an eye on the scales. A good rule can be to only eat during daylight hours. Kube Studios promotes healthy habits over unhealthy diet regimes. Model Diet Tips

Workout and Diet Tips from our Experts

Kube Studios are on hand to guide you every step of the way. We are not just a modelling studio, we are so much more than this.

Make sure you steer clear of bloat offenders.

To go along with your improved diet, keep mixing up your workout.

"I love yoga, Pilates, and running. A combination is important so you create dynamic muscles and work different parts of your body. This will yield better results.

"I recommend avoiding carbonated beverages. They make you gassy and bloated, and some say they can cause cellulite.  I also tell my clients to stay away from dairy as it is very mucus-producing, and can cause bloat and constipation for the people who don't digest it properly. Fried foods are always a big no-no. regardless of the date or season.

Maintaining high energy levels is actually simpler than you think.

"Stay hydrated, eat light through the day, and opt for sustainable caffeine options like green tea. Also, make sure you are getting the proper amount of sleep."

NOW is the time to get on those healthy habits.

"Fashion Week is an important time to stay on top of your game, especially with all the parties and goings-on—but it's also a time when people usually break out of their healthy routines. Before fashion week is a great time to get your body on track by eating properly, getting lots of sleep, and working out, so if you don't have time during the mayhem at least you know you put in the work before.
And when the mayhem does commence, let superfood give you a boost.

What's in a picture?

Portfolio Advice from Kube Studios

Kube Studios are one of Britain's favourite photography studios. With studios in London, Birmingham and Manchester we cover the majority of England and have a track record of producing fantastic portfolios and commercial projects. What is in a picture? The first thing to consider is, who is the viewer? What is your audience.

For most people, their audience is their friends, family and acquaintances, often shared on Facebook. To think about a modeling portfolio in the same way as this is immediate failure. Your audience is not the same, and they are looking at different things. Here are some tips from Kube Studios.

Kube Studios Reviews
Kube Studios
Steps you can take before approaching an agency:

- If you can't afford a professional photoshoot, there is no reason why you can't try to make your own. Against a plain, well lit background - perhaps a sunny living room wall - have a friend take photos of your face, profile, and full body. Avoid wearing clothes that hide your figure and wear what accentuates your best attributes. Go light on the makeup, perhaps just concealer and some basic touches. Make up can change the apparent shape of your face and mislead the viewer.

- Make sure that the photos taken are a true representation of you. As with the make up, if you send your photos to an agency and they meet (who they think) is a different person than the one in the photos, then things won't work out. Be as honest as you can and accept anything you don't like about your look rather than trying to hide it. This could be the thing that sets you apart from someone else.

- Create your modeling resume, or z-card. Startup Models actually offer this service specifically. The z-card doesn't have to be particularly impressive, although it should have something that shows experience of dealing with people and being the focus of attention. It should also be presented well to get the best response possible. Many people who want to become models experience stage fright to the point that they can't do the job - and they don't realise that they are susceptible to it until they get there!

Kube Studios, The Modelling Portfolio Specialists

Kube Studios: The Modelling Portfolio Specialists

Every year, thousands of people both young and old decide that they are going to take steps in their lives towards becoming models. Many of these people find role models in the famous names of the catwalk or the reality TV stars who shoot to fame over night. The reality TV phenomenon, although everywhere we look now, is relatively recent, having started with Big Brother in the last decade. Many of the people who gain instant fame don't have the longevity to keep it going, and we end up forgetting about them - sometimes in a matter of months!

Kube Studios
Kube Studios

When you are planning your career, be it in modelling, or using modelling as a way to have a bit more work coming in, there are some things that you should always take into account. These are; am I suitable? Do I really want to do this? Could I deal with being recognised in the street? If your answer to all three of these questions is Yes! then you are in with a chance.

A modelling portfolio is a collection of various shots that give a kind of 360 degree view of a model. It also includes vitals like your height, weight, measurements and acts as your modelling CV. Kube Studios specialise in creating and updating industry standard portfolios for all types of models. If you have questions regarding modelling, or have any photographic needs then please visit the Kube Studios website and send us a note. Kube Studios Recipe for Success

The most successful people have strict routines. You may have been surprised to hear that your boss wakes up at 4 and does tai-chi in the park or that someone reads 200 pages a night in bed. It’s these routines that fashion consultants also advise to any aspiring models wishing to give themselves the best shot in the business. Kube Studios knows this and loves seeing customers who really make the effort to do themselves proud.

Kube Studios

Imagine a string with a series of beads on it. The beads represent your goals, perhaps related to male modelling aspirations, relationships, and priorities. Tip the string this way or that way, and the beads easily slide off and onto the floor. But tie a knot on each end of the string, and the beads stay put. Those knots are your morning and evening routines. They keep the priorities of your life from falling apart and thus help you progress and become a better person.

A strong routine gives you time to moonlight. Don’t quit your job yet; moonlight and hustle in your spare time until your dream job becomes a truly viable option. According to Kube Studios staff, the best time to do that is in the mornings and evenings before and after work. By the end of the day, our willpower reserve is running on empty which results in us being irritable, making poor decisions, and taking the path of least resistance - being pulled down by gravity when we want to soar. When given a choice between going to the gym or playing video games, we’ll choose video games and this doesn't help us develop. Use this time of the day to add value to your life, rather than detract from it and you will go far. Find out more about Kube Studios in the video below and read some reviews of our photography services on our other Kube Studios blog.

First of all, you have to choose whether you wish to use a powder or liquid eyeliner. If you choose a liquid eyeliner, start by drawing a line as close as you can to the eyelash line, starting at the inner corner and drawing across. A fine line will add discreet emphasis to your eyes, while a thick line will be more striking and make the eyes look bigger. If you draw the line thicker than you wanted, blend it into the eyelid a little using a brush or even just a finger tip. Easy as that! Note that if you are intending to use shadow too, apply this first or it will interfere with your line. Liquid eyeliner is probably the most difficult to apply, so don't worry if it takes a little practice to get the results you want. The make up artists at Kube Studios will attend to your every need so don't concern yourself with trying to do your own make up on the morning of your photo shoot!

If you choose to use a pencil eyeliner they have a tendency to smear and smudge. Don't skimp out and choose by price, go for the best one you can. Go for a retractable pencil version rather than the pencil sharpener ones as they often split and are more likely to snap. Apply shadow after using pencil eyeliner and it will help stop it from smearing. They tend to wear off relatively quickly and shadow helps to make your make up last longer.
